National News: The Punjab Government has started a major project called the ‘Roshan Punjab’ Mission, investing Rs 5,000 crore in power transmission and distribution. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party National Convener Arvind Kejriwal laid the foundation stone for this project in Jalandhar. Thousands of people attended the event, which was widely praised across the state. This initiative is part of the AAP government’s welfare programs, showing its commitment to improving life for every citizen. Cabinet ministers, MLAs, Punjab Power Corporation officials, and local representatives were also present at the ceremony.

Largest Power Project in Punjab

This project is the biggest power initiative in the state and aims to make Punjab self-reliant in energy. Its goal is to provide safe, affordable, and uninterrupted electricity 24 hours a day to every home, farm, and industry. Punjab’s power system had suffered for decades with frequent outages due to old equipment, weak transmission lines, and insufficient substations. With this scheme, power cuts and voltage fluctuations will become a thing of the past. Farmers and businesses will get long-term benefits, giving a boost to the state’s economy.

Upgrading Infrastructure for Safety and Reliability

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said, “No factory will stop due to electricity shortage, no farmer will work in the dark, and no child will miss education because of power cuts.” The government plans to repair old power lines, upgrade substations with modern technology, and install new transmission and distribution lines in cities and villages. These steps will increase the reliability of electricity, reduce technical problems, and lower maintenance costs, saving money for the state in the long run. Public safety is also a key focus. Dangling wires and unsafe meters are being replaced, and the 1912 helpline has been upgraded for faster complaint resolution and online tracking. Consumers can now report issues instantly, and problems will be fixed within a set time. These measures will make life safer and more convenient, building trust in government services.

Modern Technology and Smart Cities

Under the guidance of Punjab Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), modern technology is being used in 13 major cities, including Amritsar, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, and Patiala. Smart meters, automated fault detection, and remote monitoring will reduce power theft, improve revenue, and enhance service quality. Reliable electricity will also attract investors, create jobs, and support Punjab’s industrial growth. Long-term agreements with coal suppliers will reduce electricity costs for thermal plants, making the state energy-secure and self-reliant. Farmers will benefit from lower costs for irrigation and crop processing, while small industries will get electricity at subsidized rates. This support will strengthen the rural economy and bridge the urban-rural development gap.

Transparent Services and Long-Term Benefits

For the first time in Punjab, the government has made reforms based on public input from Gram Panchayats, municipalities, farmers, and industry groups. The new system includes online bill payments, mobile app complaint registration, a single-window electricity connection system, and timely maintenance. Transmission lines will be installed safely on strong poles, reducing accidents during storms or rains. Meter boxes will be durable, tamper-proof, and weather-resistant, ensuring reliable supply and fair billing. The ‘Roshan Punjab’ Mission is not just about electricity—it is a step toward a brighter, safer, and more prosperous future for Punjab. It guarantees benefits for farmers, youth, businesses, and families, creating a modern and strong foundation for the state. With this project, Punjab enters a new era where homes are illuminated, fields are green, and industries flourish.
